  • ACRM Stroke Movement Interventions Task Force, January 12

    • Monika Gross, and Bob Mandell, an ACRM member with lived experience of stroke, presented on how ACRM could better include people with lived experience and care partners in the ACRM mission to design and implement interdisciplinary, science-based, person-centered rehabilitation.

  • ACRM Women in Neurodegenerative Disease Research Award

    • Monika Gross, is nomiated for this year’s award.

  • Diversity & Disparities Professional Interest Area (PIA) – Rural Health Disparities Working Group

    • Monika Gross works with team on Letter of Intent for grant from the Borreal Waters group in Minnesota. Was not invited to submit full application.

  • English-Speaking Alexander Technique for Parkinson’s Basic Training Recorded & Synchronous Training

    • One UK/Israeli AT professional trained in The Poise Project’s in-depth 13 hour online trainings on foundations for working with people living with Parkinson’s, including the many motor and non-motor symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease, the stages of progression, the causes, the current medications and treatments, and the specific difficulties and challenges unique to teaching this population.

  • International Somatic Movement and Education Therapy Association (ISMETA) - Research & Publications Committee, January 30

    • Organized and assisted in delivering a Collegial Discussion on pseudoscience and the Polyvagal Theory with two AT neuroscientists, three ISMETA training program directors who reference PVT, and 9 R&P Committee members.

    • Webinar on actions needed to support early childhood education under the current federal and state administration.

  • American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT), March 24

    • Attended a townhall of membership to find solutions to internal issues as well as promotion of AT to the public.

    • Attended webinar with Heather Gerken, President of the Ford Foundation, about the state of funding for nonprofits under the current federal administraion.

    • Monika Gross met with Renee Schneider who is representing AmSAT at these meetings to consult on current AT research and next steps to reommend.

June 2026

  • Awarded the 2026 American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) Research Grant

    • Rajal Cohen and Monika Gross awarded $1,500 to support the writing of two scientific articles about the “Partnering with Poise” care partner course 12 month post-course outcomes, and the online PWP course outcomes.

  • American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) Annual Conference, June 27

    • Monika Gross delivered a workshop for 14 attendees on new ways of teaching joint proprioception with clarity using bone models and image cueing language to help clients begin to quickly direct themselves and apply the AT principles on their own away from sessions.

    • Offered insight during business meeting in how language AmSAT was reviewing regarding “hands on” and online teaching was premature as research was not available yet on how the AT principles are learned online relative to in person, and what the advantages and disadvantages of both might be.

  • Jessica Wolf’s Art of Breathing Certification Part 2, June 19-24

    • Monika Gross completed certification in Jessica Wolf’s Art of Breathing training in Los Angeles. Part 1 was in July 2019 in Oklahoma, with Part 2 interrupted for many years by COVID and health issues for Jessica Wolf. Certification was completed with Pamela Blanc of Alexander Technique Center of Los Angeles (ATC-LA).

  • Diversity & Disparities Professional Interest Area (PIA) – Rural Health Disparities Working Group

    • Monika Gross works with team on an R15 grant application to create and diseeminate a survey about community-dwelling older adults in rural communties and their use of technology for their health care.

  • ACRM Spinal Cord Injury Special Interest Group Physical Function & Wellness Task Force Grant Proposal

    • Monika Gross and Dr. Bianca Carson, Sports Neurolgist at Boston, submitted a proposal for a grant for a feasibility study to design and deliver an AT-based course for adaptive sports wheelchair users in Boston.

July 2026

  • American Congress for Rehabilitation Medicine 2026 Conference - Proposals Accepted

    • The Poise Project will deliver three symposiums and two instructional courses in Washington DC in October 2026:

      • Symposium: Thinking, moving, speaking: How to implement arts-based cognitive activities for people living with Parkinson's

      • Symposium: Welcoming and including people with lived experience and care partner members in ACRM's mission to design and implement interdisciplinary, science-based, person-centered rehabilitation

      • Symposium: Stroke Movement Rehabilitation Interventions: Comparing and Debating Compensatory vs Restorative Approaches

      • Instructional Course: Cognitive Embodiment Course for Speech Language Pathologists: Introduction to Alexander technique

      • Instructional Course: Cognitive Embodiment Course for Occupational Therapists: Introduction to Alexander technique

    • Monthly meetings as an active member on the ISMETA Research & Publications Committee.

  • American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee

    • Regular meetings as an active member on the ACRM DEI Committee. Participated in action decisions in response to the federal government’s attempts at censoring equitable and inclusive research and rehabilitation access for diverse populations.

  • American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee Member Engagement Subcommittee

    • Regular meetings as an active member on the ACRM DEI Committee Member Engagement Subcommittee. Created memberwide survey and then analyzed data for presentation to the larger DEI Committee and the ACRM Board of Governors.

  • Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment (ISTAART)

    • Active member of the Diversity and Disparities Professional Interest Area (PIA) Rural Health Disparities Working Group participating in monthly meetings.

  • The Developing Self USA

    • Meetings during the year with US team members of the US working group, a branch of The Developing Self UK, on the ongoing project to bring AT-related curriculum to children and youth in primary, secondary, and tertiary school settings. Also continued with ongoing WhatsApp and Zoom meetings with The Developing Self UK project.
