  • Alexander Technique Liberation Project, January 11.

    • Participated in online think tank on how to develop marketing that brings AT to new populations.

  • Intern Mentorship (January-April)

    • Executive Director Monika Gross mentored an MFA candidate from the University of Florida (Gainesville) in active engagement with running an Alexander technique focused nonprofit as part of her final semester graduation requirements.

  • The Poise Project United Kingdom International Project

    • Led international effort to bring evidence-based AT programming to the United Kingdom. Administered all aspects of continued training, marketing, regional recruitment, and regular team meetings.

  • American Parkinson’s Disease Association - Massachusetts Chapter

    • Submitted $4,000 grant proposal to deliver three “Poised for Parkinson’s: Manage Balance, Walking, and Freezing of Gait” in-person workshops in Attleboro MA and Seekonk MA. Grant proposal was not funded.

  • Parkinson’s Foundation Grant Proposal

    • Submitted $18,000 grant proposal for delivering four PARTNERING WITH POISE: CARE FOR THE CARE PARTNER online courses for Black care partners of people living with Parkinson's disease with the intention of establishing a safe online space that prioritizes unique cultural health and social concerns by raising up relationships between community, caregiving, and personal agency for this target population.

February 2025

  • Alexander Technique Liberation Project, February 8.

    • Participated in planning meeting for future projects.

  • Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment (ISTAART), February 10.

    • Participated in meeting of the Diversity and Disparities Professional Interest Area (PIA) Rural Health Disparities Working Group regarding under-diagnosed dementia in rural populations.

  • Black Country: African American Heritage Festival - Charlotte History Museum, Charlotte NC, February 22.

    • Networked with Black health and wellbeing leaders in North Carolina exhibiting at this event. Made good connections for outreach and program delivery.

  • Alexander Technique Bangalore

    • Met with Béatrice Simmons to discuss how The Poise Project could support continuing their Alexander technique workshops and teacher training program established in Bangalore India.

  • “Poised for Parkinson’s”: Managing Balance, Walking and Freezing of Gait Workshop, February 20.

    • Delivered in person workshop session in Galway Scotland.

March 2025

  • ACRM Stroke ISIG Movement Interventions TF, March 10.

    • Led Team Preparation and Moderated a robust presentation/debate on “Compensation vs. Remediation Approaches in Stroke Movement Rehabilitation”.

  • Barrington Rhode Island District Nursing Association

    • Submitted a $3,200 grant proposal to deliver a "Partnering with Poise: Care for the Care Partner" course via Zoom to family care partners in Rhode Island.

  • The Poise Project Boston/Providence Regional Project

    • Led continued effort to bring evidence-based AT programming to Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Administered all aspects of continued training, marketing, regional recruitment, and regular team meetings.

  • “Partnering with Poise: Care for the Care Partner” online course. March 25-June 10.

    • Launched 12 week online course for Black care partners of people living with dementia recruited in NC and SC and nationally. This was the first ever peer-to-peer delivery of this course.

April 2025

  • “Partnering with Poise: Care for the Care Partner” workshop curriculum training. March 29-April 8.

    • Led a two-day online and six-day in person training in Asheville NC for three instructors in how to deliver The Poise Project’s four-lesson evidence-based workshop curriculum for family care partners.

  • “Poised for Parkinson’s”: Managing Balance, Walking and Freezing of Gait Workshop, April 10-21.

    • Delivered four-day in person workshop sessions in Providence RI.

  • Parkinson’s Association of the Carolinas: Care Partner Summit, Charlotte NC, April 12.

    • Led a 20 minute AT-based session as part of a full-day summit for care partners of people living with Parkinson’s. Had an exhibit table with team member Nina Reed and shared information with and received contact information from care partner participants.

  • North Carolina Black Alliance 2025 NC Black Summit, Raleigh NC, April 17-19.

    • Attended statewide summit with team member Nina Reed.

    • Interacted with participants involved in the mission of the NC Black Alliance, which is to enhance the well-being and advancement of Black communities in NC through systemic policy change, economic empowerment and youth and leadership development. As an intergovernmental organization uniting legislators, municipal officials, county commissioners, school board members and community activists, they collaborate with strategic partners to amplify collective impact and foster intentional, meaningful engagement with Black constituencies across North Carolina.

    • Had the opportunity to connect with Governor Josh Stein, and US Congresswoman Valerie Foushee, both who attended the same Chapel Hill High School as Executive Director Monika Gross.

May 2025

  • Parkinson’s Association of the Carolinas (PAC) Move It! Walk, Charlotte NC, May 3.

    • Community team member Salem Macknee ran our exhibit table and shared The Poise Project program information with and received contact information from people living with Parkinson’s and their care partner participants.

  • Parkinson’s Association of the Carolinas (PAC) Move It! Walk, Wilmington NC, May 31.

    • Monika Gross and peer team member Nina Reed ran our exhibit table and shared The Poise Project program information with and received contact information from people living with Parkinson’s and their care partner participants. After a physical therapist led a pre-walk body warm up, Monika led a pre-walk AT-based “brain” warm up which was well-received and applied by participants living with PD in the walk.

  • Alexander Technique Intervention for People Diagnosed with Functional Movement Disorders (FMD)

    • Partnered with clinical movement disorder specialists at the University of Florida Department of Neurology, Miller School of Medicine, on developing a grant proposal for a feasibility study of an AT-based online course for the treatment of FMD patients, including the feasibility and impact of including family members in an intervention.

June 2025

  • Awarded the American Socity for the Alexander Technique Research Grant

    • Awarded $2,500 for presenting The Poise Project’s research abstract and poster: “Embodiment self-management strategies for PD+FOG: ‘I know where I am. I have time. I am in control.’” at the inaugural International Consortium on Freezing of Gait in Atlanta GA, and networking with clinical and basic scientists interested in collaborating with the University of Idaho and The Poise Project on further research into AT for FOG.

    • Scientific Consultant Dr. Rajal Cohen and Executive Director Monika Gross teamed up to present The Poise Project’s research abstract and poster: “Embodiment self-management strategies for PD+FOG: ‘I know where I am. I have time. I am in control.’” at the inaugural International Consortium on Freezing of Gait in Atlanta GA, and networking with clinical and basic scientists.

    • Connections were made with basic and clinical researchers who may collaborate with The Poise Project on AT for PD research.

    • Monthly meetings as an active member on the ISMETA Research & Publications Committee.

  • American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee

    • Regular meetings as an active member on the ACRM DEI Committee. Participated in action decisions in response to the federal government’s attempts at censoring equitable and inclusive research and rehabilitation access for diverse populations.

  • American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee Member Engagement Subcommittee

    • Regular meetings as an active member on the ACRM DEI Committee Member Engagement Subcommittee. Participated in action decisions in response to the federal government’s attempts at censoring equitable and inclusive research and rehabilitation access for diverse populations, and finding pro-active ways to gather feedback from ACRM members on their lived experience of diversity, equity and inclusion in their interactions within ACRM,

    • Active member of the Diversity and Disparities Professional Interest Area (PIA) Rural Health Disparities Working Group participating in monthly meetings.

  • The Developing Self USA

    • Meetings during the year with US team members of the US working group, a branch of The Developing Self UK, on the ongoing project to bring AT-related curriculum to children and youth in primary, secondary, and tertiary school settings. Also continued with ongoing WhatsApp and Zoom meetings with The Developing Self UK project.

  • International Somatic Movement Education & Therapy Association (ISMETA)

    • Attended monthly international Somatic Cafés and Community Connect meetings throughout the year with somatic movement educator and therapist colleagues on a variety of subjects, including addressing gaps in Accessibility in Somatics.

  • Monthly Meetings of the American Congress for Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) Special Interest, Networking, & Taskforce Groups

    • Monika Gross is an active participant in ACRM special interest groups, representing Alexander technique to allied health professionals involved in clinical rehab research and practice, and working on articles and other team projects.
