OUR MISSION & GOAL

To train Alexander technique professionals to deliver workshop curriculum of evidence-based Alexander technique group courses for family care partners in a variety of settings, including online.

In 2024, we are running two large-scale projects: one in the Boston/Providence area, and one in the UK. This type of strategic and focused team effort has never been done in our AT global community. You will be part of a ground-breaking project to bring the AT principles to those who can benefit the most. In this way, we are working strategically to remove many of the existing barriers to accessing AT principles across broad socioeconomic groups. We are creating demand for new jobs for Alexander technique teachers in new fields, and then training AT professionals to meet that new demand.

"Partnering with Poise" was developed in the United States with funding from the Parkinson's Foundation. It was part of an IRB-approved research study through the University of Idaho led by Dr. Rajal Cohen, who is the Scientific Consultant for The Poise Project. The course curriculum and protocols were written by Monika Gross and Belinda Mello. You can view research that has been presented on this course at this link: https://www.thepoiseproject.org/tpp-research

THIS “PARTNERING WITH POISE” CURRICULUM TRAINING WILL INCLUDE:

  • All parts of the detailed training course manual, including lesson plans for four classes; class structure; course objectives; course terminology; and detailed instructions for course administration.

  • How to understand, manage and troubleshoot group dynamics when working with caregivers, including how to keep them “in the room.”

  • Basic training on The Poise Project's strategic model and overall project objectives, and clarification of team agreements.

  • Strategic next steps, including ongoing communications and accountabilities; ongoing team support; strategies for finding funding and community partnerships at the local level; and future developments.
